ABOUT US
The Department activities can be divided broadly into three offices pertaining to Labour, Employment, and Factories & Boilers.
- The Labour wing is responsible for the implementation of various Labour Laws for maintaining industrial peace.
- The Employment wing is responsible for Registration and Sponsoring the names of the interested candidates and collection of Employment Market Information.
- The Office of Factories & Boiler implements the various provisions of the Factories Act, 1948 and Boilers Act, 1923.
Functions
- To maintain industrial peace, harmony and cordial relations.
- To maintain and protect rights and reduce exploitation of the workers.
- Raising the living standard of the industrial workers.
- Helping in stimulation of the industrial growth.
- The major decisions are taken as per the directions of Govt. Of India.
- Survey and rehabilitation of child labour as per National Child Labour Projects scheme guidelines.
- Reforms in labour laws and procedures.
- Promoting citizen-facing reforms, feedback study, and labour welfare measures.
- The effective implementation of Labour Laws to provide social security net to urban unorganized sector labour.
Objectives
- To ensure payment of minimum wages and provision of various social security measures.
- To eliminate child labour and work towards their rehabilitation.
- To ensure equity in payment of wages.
- To ensure industrial peace and harmony.
- To work towards promoting Lok-Adalats as a mechanism for grievance redressal.
- To implement reforms in labour laws and procedures.
- To ensure provision of social security net to unorganized sector workforce.
Directorate of Boilers works under the administrative control of the Commissioner of Labour for Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu. The prime function of the Directorate of Boilers is to prevent boiler accidents during use and to protect life and property through effective implementation of boiler laws with a view to ensure safe working of boilers.
The Directorate promotes safety of boilers, inspection technology, and awareness of boiler management systems. Through vigorous inspections and follow-up actions, safety standards are continuously improved across the Union Territory.
Chief Inspector of Boilers, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, is the boiler registering authority and the Secretary (Labour) is the appellate authority.
